Need Help Badly!!! My cars not Driveable!!!

I really need some advice right now, because my car is not driveable at the moment. I tried to replace the rear engine mount and everything was going fine, untill I went to put the bolts in the rear side of the cross member. I have come to find that both are stripped and the bolts would hold no torque, that seemed odd to me considering that I had hand tightened them. Anyway I had some other bolts the same size and when I attemped to hand tighten those the fell out as well. It turns out the holes for the cross member are stripped in the back and now I cant drive my car anymore because theres very little support on the engine. My question is should I try to tap those holes with a hela coil, or should I just get a size larger for the bolt and force it in. I dont know what im going to do because this is a serious problem, and the cars not drivable. I'm really stressin out about this, so any advice would be appreciated!!!

This is over my head, but if you don't get any reply's try www.motorvate.ca. It's a very good forumn and has detailed pics and instructions on projects. Good luck.

sounds like you need to either get a new cross member or remove yours and have it rethreaded. Not too bad of a problem/predicament. Try your local salvage yard.

the cross member doesnt have any threads in it, so its not tha simple to just replace the cross member. The threads are in the piece below the cross member, which is some type of support for the front suspension controll arms. Any suggestions please???

Is there any way that you can get to the back of the the treaded section (ie inside the car, under the dash/carpet) and use a slightly longer bolt and a nut?

I wouldn't use a heli-coil here - maybe drill the hole smooth and tap new threads into it, the next size up.

d4mz0rz....at this point i would say this........

Be very careful with what you do. You screw it up this time, and you will be looking at a new engine and/or parts......

I would call a nissan dealership, and just ask him what he would do in an instance like that.

good luck

call junkyards in your area and see if they have a max and try to take the part off that one

it seems like none of you guys know what im talking about, there are no threads in the subframe connector which holds the front and rear engine mounts. Its just a steel bar, the threads are in the frame of the car. So no im not going to call a junk yard, and no I dont need a new engine. All im asking is whether I should use the heli-coil, or just try a larger bolt?

I know what you are talking about, on the back part of the crossmember there are 2 large bolts. You stripped the threads on the thing it bolts up to, not the crossmember. It's some part of the suspension, maybe they have a replacement???? or if not, get bigger nut and try it.

I fixed it last night after a myriad of the advice I recieved was wrong. People told me to retap the holes, replace the bolts, try a heli coil, everything failed. So I went to home depot and bought some 1/2inch bolts and retapped the 12mm hole to 1/2 inch. After I retapped the, I cleaned it out and put the nuts in. Everything is fine now, but thats the solution in case it happens to anyone else
