Will a 96 airbag work with 97-99 steering wheel?

OK, I searched but i coudn't find anything...I wanted to put a 99SE steering wheel in my 96SE, and was told I could do the swap....if I bought a 97+ airbag. This was info was from a reliable source, but I was wondering if there was anyone out there who has actually done the swap while still keeping their 95-96 airbag. I just don't wanna spend the extra money if I can work around it, though the airbag still needs to work properly. If the newer airbag IS necessary, where can I get one for cheap? I don't see any right now on here or eBay. If ya got any ideas or experience, please give your input. THANKS!!!

as far as a 95-6 airbag fitting into a 97-9 steering wheel i have to say no way, since the 95-6 have a different shape then the 97-9 airbag. and just for you to know if you get a 97-9 se steering wheel only a se airbag will fit, gle and gxe won't. good luck trying to find an airbag, i'm still looking for a set for mine.

What's the difference between SE, GLE, and GXE steering wheels? I didn't realize there were fitment issues between the different trim levels.

Research is definately good....you will also need to swap wiring harnesses if going from 96...>97-99 they are different.

But your talking about the motor harness right? I didnt have a problem putting the 97-99 SE steering wheel/airbag on mine. So when I go to get another motor I got to get a 95-96 one?

Motor Yes...but the wiring harness for the airbag on the driver's side is different from the 95/96===>97-99. So is the airbag computer...unless it has something to do with my swap going from an SE to a GXE...could be the issue. :shrugs:

Wierd, mine hooked up perfectly. No airbag light either. Might be a gxe thing?
