Good Evening,

I have purchased a 99 Maxima GXE. I love it. It does sway but I hope to get those questions answered here. Plus I have some other questions.
1. I want to get rid of that sway, should I get my strut brace and rear sway bar after I get my rims or before I get my rims?
2. I am getting 18" rims for my love, LOL, what offset do I need and what width do you recommend?
3. I am looking for a good air intake system for the car, who do you suggest?
4. I have 2 JL Audio 15W6's (I love them), how did any of you secure you box in the trunk?
5. Is their a performance chip for the 99 Maxima?

Well that is all my questions for now. I would really appreciate anything you all could suggest. Thanks.

Hey Darthswan,
Welcome and congratulations on your purchase. These subjects have been thoroughly covered here and you can numerous hits using the search function at the top of the page. I'll give you the short version.

1. Rims won't get rid of the sway, FSTB and RSB will. It's up to you to determine your priorities.
2. don't know, will have to search for it.
3. The Place Racing Cold Air Intake, a.k.a. TPR CAI, is the best hp gain. Two drawbacks, it's a little priceier than pop chargers and you have to cut a hole in the inner fender. Best price is Cattman Performance, http://www.cattman.com
4. don't know, will have to search for it.
5. don't think so, IIRC ECU's are available for '95-'96

Watch out man, hanging out here is really bad on your bank account. Once you start modding, there is no turning back. Have you ever seen that 1930's drug abuse movie "Killer Weed", it's like that! Baddd things, man; badddddd things!!

As far as securing the box...

What I did was first of all replace that flimsy cardboard in the trunk with a piece of plywood that is in the shape of the trunk. I added L shaped bracket to the box and screwed the box down to the plywood.. presto.. no more box sliding around. One drawback which most people don't care about... You'd have to remove the box and that big piece of plywood in the event of a flat tire.

Thank you all for the information. But I chose not to look up the information, because that information would have been old, sense technology updates daily. I will take some of these suggestions and put them to work, thanks.

Hey Darthswan,

Again congrats on the purchase...I just bought a 99se about 6 months ago...as far as i've checked there are no ecu upgrades for the 99 because it was a transition year for the ecu as they were getting ready for the 2000 ecu. sucks i know. i actually have my FSTB and my RSB on order right now and they should be here early next week. I bought the ones from stillen...they are a little more expensive but the the FSTB has nice cosmetics and the RSB is adjustable so you can fit your driving style. If you are looking to order these two mods anytime soon, go to http://www.thrill-factory.com call the number and ask for shane telling him that Jason Hopkins sent you from the Maxima board and he can get you a pretty good deal. He's a good friend of mine and is starting his own performance shop and wants to get his name out there and will appreciate your business and will show it.

Also i have just a few suggestions on your rims...I too wanted to get 18's at first but i changed my mind for two reasons: 1. I rode in a max with big rims and the ride felt pretty bad in my opinion. If you are going for performance but still want the nice ride of the max when you are just relaxing just grab some 17's. 2. Don't know how good you are with physics but the larger the rim then the more power it takes to get it moving so, in fact, you will lose a little acceleration with any rim upgrade but especially with the 18's. This is just a suggestion but the final choice is of course yours. 18's do look sweet...I wish i could afford two sets of rims but again don't we all.
