maxima se front sway bar
#1
Can anyone confirm whether or not the front sway bar used on the 4th gen SE's are thicker and stiffer than on gxe's or gle's. And if it is possible to swap for one in hopes of getting better performance. I have also heard that replacing with urethane bushings can also help.

Thicker????
I'm not sure if it's thicker but i do know that you can replace the bushings with urethane ones. Someone was selling them i forgot who.

don't try and and make some work...
go to suspension.com and order the right parts, they are actually cheaper, $7.00 for the front sway bar bushings and $28.00 for the front end control arm bushings. They are not the cheap bushings that squeak either, they are the new energy suspension kind that are graphite impregnated so no grease is needed.

Don't bother.
- Regardless of whether or not the SE's bar is thicker, it wouldn't be strong enough to warrant a swap. You'd just run into more trouble than you need.
- Personally, I have the Stillen adjustable RSB and an SE model. My car has as much sway bar as it can take and I still have body roll because of my stock ride height. The Maxima towers over other cars with something close to 6.1 inches of ground clearance. It is a very tall car. I imagine that you won't see good results from sway bars until your car is lowered.
- Basically, don't bother with the SE's bar unless you are vying for the SpeedVision Touring Car Championship and you need that little extra oomph to win... And welcome to the board.

Ok...thanks. I thought I read on an old post that they were a major pain to install and most folks were letting someone else do the work.

I have not yet, but plan to do it this summer when I also get springs and struts. I haven't had time to do it yet. there are others that have done it though, with no squeaking or problems. I will post the results after I do the install.
