The biggest brand out there is DEI. They own brands like Viper and Clifford. I'm sure they make a remote start only kit.

the window rollup would rock, so would a remote starter, was it auto or manual?

I got Don @ Pearl96Max to do my remote start alarm system. He's pretty good. Give him a shout.

Santino: I would like to know how he did it.

it's not hard to do it yourself if you have some mechanical skills. i did it my self in about 6 hours and mine is working perfectly. the only problem that i ran into was that all the information that i found for the wiring diagram for my 99 max were wrong. this is the correct wires for the 99 max.

NISSAN MAXIMA 1999
WIRE COLORS LOCATION
12 VOLTS CONSTANT WHT/RED or WHT/VIO IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS
IGNITION 1 BLK/WHT or BLK/RED IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS
IGNITION 2 N/A IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS
IGNITION 3 N/A N/A
ACCESSORY/HEATER BLOWER 1 RED/YELLOW IGN SWITCH HARNESS
STARTER BLK/YEL or BLK/WHT IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS
STARTER 2 RED/BLUE OR BLACK/ GREEN IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS *
PARKING LIGHTS RED/GRN (+) STEERING COLUMN HARNESS
DOMELIGHT RED/WHT (-) DR KICK PANEL
PWR DOOR LOCK LT.GRN/RED (-) DR DOOR
PWR DOOR UNLOCK GRN/YEL (-) (TYPE B)
TRUNK RELEASE VIO/YEL (-) DR KICK PANEL
TACH SENSOR WHT/GRN AT ECM FRONT OF CONSOLE
BRAKE RED/GRN (+) SWITCH ABOVE BRAKE
HORN GRN/WHT (-) STEERING COLUMN
FACTORY DISARM GRN/YEL (-) N/A

* MOST NEW REMOTE START SYSTEMS NOW INCLUDE AN INTEGRATED RELAY FOR THE SECOND REMOTE START WIRE (COLD START) IF NOT YOU WILL HAVE TO ADD A RELAY TO CONNECT IT, WHICH IS VERY SIMPLE TO DO.
LOOK ON THE RELAY
PIN 30 = 12V CONSTANT POWER
PIN 87 = 2ND STARTER WIRE RED/BLUE OR BLACK/GREEN IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS
PIN 85 = GROUND
PIN 86 = MAIN STARTER WIRE BLACK/YELLOW OR BLACK/WHITE IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS.

AND TO USE YOUR CURRENT FACTORY REMOTE YOU WILL NEED TO CONNECT THE INPUT WIRE FROM THE REMOTE START SYSTEM TO THE PWR DOOR LOCK LT.GRN/RED (-) INSIDE THE DRIVER'S DOOR.

Forgot One Thing, You Also Need A Transponder Device For The Key. 99 Maxima's And Up Use A Transponder Key For Security. You Will Need To Use A Second Key Inside A Transponder Module That Will Send A Signal To The Ignition So It Will Think That The Key Is In It, That Way The Car Will Start Remotely. You Can Find It In Ebay For About 13 Dollars. It's Very Simple To Connect Also.

I Bought A Crimestopper Rs900iv In Ebay For 30 Dollars Including Shipping. This One Was Last Year Model. So Far So Good. It's Been Working Flawlessly. The Difference Between The New One The Vi And This One Is That The New One Has That Integrated Relay For The Second Starter Wire. But Like I Said It Was Very Easy To Add That Relay To It.

I've been researching how to do this too for a friend's Maxima. We were thinking of putting it on the factory remote, but weren't sure how. Plus, when the car is remotely running, you won't be able to use the remote to unlock the doors anymore, will you? (we tested by starting the car with the key, and then trying to unlock the doors with the remote, and it didn't work).

So now we're thinking of an alarm/combo unit.

it depends on the remote starter you buy. mine let's me lock/unlock, activate it while the car is running, take the key out and lock the doors just in case i want the car running while i run to a store or something.

Yea, we were either looking at the Crimestopper 2011RS, which is the alarm/RS combo, or the other model that's the RS and keyless. So both of those would allow you to lock and unlock while the car was running. But if we just went with an add-on RS (no keyless or alarm), then I think you'd have to use the key to enter the car.
