recall alternator

I finally got an alternator recall notice on my max 97. I don’t know why it has taken dealerships this long, may be to money? For those who have not already done so, you may want to check it out.

My original alternator was fine. I don’t know what the problem could be? I just change it anyway. I don’t want to take the risk, beside it's free with a brand new alternator, I guess.

I was under the impression that only the '95-96's had the recall, but I guess I didn't do my homework well enough. heard something about looking at the colored sticker on your alternator, and if it wasn't gray/silver, you're entitled to a new alternator.

don't take my word for it though, do some research or something, I'm not positive.

it was for certain 4th gens....i think it was for 4th gens made in 1997 which would include some 98's

I had it on a 7/97 production 1998 SE. I think it's good because it effectively takes off 5 years of wear. Usually a replacement is a poorly built remanuf, but the one I got seems to be fine.

I got mine done on my 98, I guess it is something with the diodes going bad and can cause a fire.

it can cause fire and i will too. mine started humming while driving.
5 minutes later parked it on the driveway and popped the hood, it was
smoke-ahoy. called nissan dealer and they came with a tow-truck to pick it
up and fix it all under a recall, didn't pay a dime.

if you want a new alternater go to www.nissan-usa.com and check for the recall. if your VIN falls with in the range than you can get a new one at no charge, except the 5 hour wait. good luck
