Sqeaking Belt....Should I Replace It?

I have a sqeaking belt, most of the time only sqeaks in the rain. For Marine engines that is a sign of belt wear and it needs to be replaced....Shoudl I replace it or can I just use a type of belt dressing???

It depends on what belt is making noise. Inspect the belts and make sure they don't have cracks or missing ribs. If they look good, just adjust them.

Small cracks in ribs are acceptable as per Haynes manual. They have pictures of such acceptable and non acceptable belts.

I was always told to replace the belt when it shows signs of any cracking. Last thing you would want to happen is be stranded because of a snapped belt in the rain. Besides their only like $15 every 30k miles. Squealing just means that it's not tight enough

That is wise I guess. My belts are 100 000 km old, and still good. At this point I will inspect them every once or twice a year.
