well today i tried installing. when i tested one, it worked fine. so, i put the other one in, tapped power for both of them, now my map lights, dome, and door lights don't come on. i checked a few fuses but it was getting really dark so i quit for the day. i thought this was going to be a simple little project but ended up cleaning the sun visors cuz they were dirty, then had the trouble with them not working.
i'll check the fuses again tomorrow, but could this be related to a bad connection? i had a negative wire pop out which i hoped was the problem but connecting it back still did not bring the lights on. maybe that blew a fuse once i reconnected? anyways, i will have to check all that crap tomorrow i guess and hopefully i get them working.

i took off the a pillar (sp?) and obviously the stock visors and all that junk. removed the map light housing and tapped into that power and negative. it worked when i tested one but i must have messed something up when doing all of them.
i have se gauges too, and added stock fog lights which stopped working last big snow storm...i have to figure that out too. also have spoiler, body colored splash guards, changed the gold emblems to silver, re-upholstered my seats to gray, am adding power trunk, added intermittent wipers too. soon enough i'll be where many people were stock atleast it gives me something to do!

popping solenoid on ebay, $12, release button $10 from another member, add the fuse and it should be all set. i'm just doing it so i can add a power trunk button to my alarm keychain to make it easier to open. will be tackling it tomorrow once the sun visors are all fixed up.

all done! i went to the store and bought more wire connectors and wire to make things easier.
i didn't take any pictures, sorry, but it is pretty simple to explain if anyone wants a write up. if you need more help of clearer directions, feel free to pm me or ask here. very easy mod if you have the time.
supplies needed:
14-16 gauge wire, black and red
4 male and 4 female wire connectors
4 wire taps
wire strippers
electrical tape
and the rest are obvious, the sun visors themselves with the lights, and other tools like a flat head screw driver, phillips head, and needle nose pliers to assist.
first, remove your stock sun visors. there are 3 screws total holding each up. two toward the outside and one near the middle. to see these screws, use a flat headed screw driver to pop off the plastic that covers them (where the sun visors meet the ceiling). remove those screws
next remove the rear view mirror, similar process, 3 screws and comes right out. i removed the a piller to allow the headliner/ceiling to move easier.
remove the map lights in the center. this pops off in one piece by gently placing a flat headed screw driver in and popping it out. disconnect the harness to the lights.
what i did was basically, connect the sun visors negative --> negative and positive --> positive. i used wire connectors and one long wire about 3' for each the positive and negative wires.
then, i used two 6" wires and used the wire taps to connect the sun visors' negative, to the map light negative; and the sun visors positive, to the map light's positive.
i then plugged the visors in to the wire connectors to test them out, they worked! once i was sure they would work, i put everything back in; the a pillar, the map light, the plastic holders on the ceiling that snap the sun visors in, and then finally connected the sun visors wires to the visors themselves.
a lot of that probably was not needed in such detail and i hope it's not too confusing, but i am just trying to explain it clearly and help. if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
SUMMARY
removed every part neccessary to gain access to map light wires, with room to work. wired the sun visors to each other using male & female connectors so i can easily plug and unplug them. tapped into the map light positive and negative to the wires for the sun visors. secured all connects and taped them up. put everything back together and was happy to now have what most maximas have stock.

Not too good Jeff. This is a topic for another thread but it has a severe starting problem. Once it eventually starts, it runs great. ? No one can figure it out. So there it sits in the garage. Right next to the '97 front/rear bumpers, '97 fogs, '97 Stillen ground effects, etc., etc.

make sure you check if you have them because you might. my gxe is missing a lot of the wiring so i've had to custom do most projects when i added stock options, but that doesn't neccessarily mean your se-l isn't prewired.

ha thanks rowan! check out the date when this thread started though
i think i'm running out of factory options to add. maybe i should have just bought a fully loaded max to save myself the trouble, but ah well modding is fun and gives me something to do. i only do this stuff too when i get a good deal on the parts.
over and out.
