Replacement Clutch Questions, Please Help

Hey All,

My max now has 143,000 miles on it and the clutch is slipping significantly in 3rd through 5th gears. By the way, i have been on this forum for over or about 5 years now, touching base every 6 months or so. all in all, this place / board is absolutely awesome for US max owners.

I need help. Where should I go to get my clutch replaced. I am in Northern Virginia, Manassas. Should I go to AATCO or a dealer or ???. Also what should I be willing to pay? I know I want an OEM, and not a Key clutch.

I read Hams/Bumps intoxicating thread, poor dude, i hope he ends up kicking a$$.

Please reply and Thanks to all...............

I suggest doin it yourself, its not that bad of a job. You don't need many tools, just a Hynes manual, a buddy ot give you a hand and a metric set of wrenches. You'll also need a cv puller and clutch alignment tool but all in all it's going to save you some good money because it took me about 15-17 hours. I got a brand new clutch at auto-zone for 150$ with a lifetime warentee. if you do end up doin it, i can answer any of those technical questions Redsox4series@aol.com...

I wouldn't go to the dealership. If all you are looking for is a good OEM quality clutch you can go to somewhere like Merchants and they can get you a Sachs Super Set which is one of the best replacement clutches out there. While the tranny is out you might as well at least replace the rear main seal behind the flywheel and the input shaft seal on the tranny. I've seen many 4th gens at work with rear main leaks and if it starts to leak after you have the clutch done you'll have to pay labor to remove the tranny again. I'd get the seals from the stealership.
