Replacing Airbags

Here's the deal, I will be getting a 95 maxima this weekend that has been hit in the front and both bags were deployed.. My question is besides the two acual bags, and the BCM, is there ANYTHING else that needs to be replaced?? (clockspring, airbag computer?, impact sensors) as far as the airbag system goes?
Any help is appreciated, thanks!

-T Mac

PS: and just incase does anyone know how to reset the airbag light?, its been posted before, but since u can't search...thanks. And also where the impact sensors are located and how many there are..thanks again.

The impact sensor that tripped needs to be replaced as well as the clock spring.

Most cars need to have the air bag controller replaced as it will only fire once. I'm not 100% sure if Nissan is that same but my better judgement says yes. You can get an air bag controller from a junk yard. As long as the car it's coming from hasn't had it's bags deployed, the controller is still good. Your SRS system will not reset if the used controller has deployed the bags and in that case you can return it to the salvage yard for another one. You can get used bags from salvage as well, but it's really not recomended.

not recomended to mess with your own air bags, or salvaged title parts. isnt there an air bag control unit (not the computer) as well? i suggest you let nissan do it, or someone specializing in air bags. very tricky and difficult part of the car to work on... and its not light a tail light, its life or death. Also to reset the light, turn your key to ACC (but dont start it) then press the door sensor (the one that tells you if your drivers door is open) 5+ times in one second. now people who have done it say this isnt fast enough and "you need to do it more like 7-13 times" so...try that

ok, module can be recet by a nissan dealer. sensors need to be replaced (the ones that made the bag blow), and 2 bags. Light will go off them it bags are plugged in and module is reset.

to what Tom said...you've also got to make sure that the batter has been disconnected for some time so that any kind of residual charge/voltage is disspated, so you don't blow the new bags you're putting in...just precaution..can't ever be too careful!...ya know?

its just the side pannels and stuff, and yea, under that center consule box. be careful dealing with anything air bag related. any voltage in the unit is bad times.

I appreciate the all the help, i'm going to look at the car today to see if its worthy of buying

Ok so according to what i've read in the posts:
1. The airbag computer can be reset by the dealer. Is there a second opinion on this?
2. Disconnect the battery wait a while
3. replace bags and sensors
4. Why does the clockspring need to be replaced? The haynes manual specifies that it is only a connector that allows a signal to get to the airbag regardless of steering wheel position, how can this go bad?
5. Anyone know where the sensors are in the front of the car? +how many?

PS: Has anyone acually replaced their airbags theirselves? If so What steps are involved and could u please tell all about it!

nothing big, bags are held by bolts that need a special tool to get. go to a autostore to get them. module is held by the same bolts. i don't know where the sensors are though and i will talk to somebody that knows this stuff better and ask him if the sensors need to be replaced. and what is the clockspring? i never replaced that.

Thanks for the effort..the clockspring sits right behind the airbag? and because the wheel can be in any position at anytime, there needs to be a way for the signal to get to the airbag, regardless of wheel position,
