Sucky Gas Mileage

Hey guys,
Im getting sucky gas mileage. Im driving mostly city driving. But i had 200.XX miles yesterday on the last mark before empty. What could be causing this? I have an intake, that couldnt make my mpg go down could it? Im running Exxon Supreme. Help me guys.

Tuneup. Oil change, run some fuel cleaner, clean throttle body, clean PCV/EGR valves. If still happening, make sure your ECU doesn't have any ghost codes thrown. Could be O2 sensors or knock sensors are retarding timing as well. You can clean O2 sensors with brake cleaner, and replacing the KS isn't a big deal.

Chevron with Techron Fuel System Cleaner (get the fuel system cleaner and not the other ones) for $4.88 at Pep Boys

The knock sensor can kill you MPG and rob your power. Read the FAQs Old O2 sensors can also kill your mileage since they become slower. They said you should replace them at 100k miles.

Don't forget to check your tire pressure... can make a great difference in tire life and economy.

And fer pete's sake, slow down a little!

i doubt thier is anything wrong with your car, the past 2 tanks of gas i purchased only got men 320 miles per tank. i used to get 380 to 400 per tank. it` s winter time and this is when the gas company`s either add detergents to gas or oxeginate the fuel wich results in less mpg but cleaner air.

Winter gas may account for at most 1 MPG difference. If you milage suddenly drops 2 - 3 or more, then something is wrong. I would double check anything (mods, heh heh) that was just done to the car prior to the mileage drop (I forgot to tighten the air intake to the throttle body, caused -2MPG). If mileage drops gradually over a long period or you don't really know when, then a general tune-up would be a good start. And always check the ECU codes even if the CEL is off.
