RVM Lightweight Pulley ($83.99)

I was wondering if any of you guys who ordered the RVM Lightweight Underdrive Crank Pulley for 95-02 from www.rvmracing.com know the belt sizes that you need? I'm not sure if the belt sizes are the same as for the Unorthodox Racing Pulley ones, the ones that custom maxima has on their site. The belt sizes were on the instruction sheet that came along with the pulley, but i lost it and was wondering if any of you guys could help me out... Thanks.

That pulley looks kind of shaddy. It's not one piece so I don't know how good is it with vibration. Unorthodox pulleys are solid CNC machined ones. I don't know maybe someone around here got one to tell you if they are good.

There's something about the RVM you might want to read about:

There are also several threads on this board about problems with the RVM including a sticky in the General forum.

Save yourself some trouble and spend a little more on the Unortodox or possibly the Definitive.

I am very familiar with this pulley. I bought one and it didn't work. Car stalled a lot. I ended up getting a Definitive pulley and haven't had a problem since. As far as belts, all the UDP's (RVM, Definitive, and I assume UR) use the same sized belts. I forgot what size the alternator belt is, but for the power steering pump, use the stock size belt. if you look at the inner (smaller) half of the pulley, it is the same diameter as the stock pulley. it is just the outter half of the pulley that is a smaller diameter.

As far as telling if your pulley will work on your car...there are 2 issues.
1. the timing ring does not send a signal to the crank position sensor. my pulley had a stainless steel ring that was not magnetic, so it would not react with the magnetic sensor.. he said he was going to change it, but i don't know. take a magnet and see if it sticks to the timing ring. if the magnet holds, it may work. if a magnet does not stick, you will probably have a very very hard time starting your car. i had to tow my car home twice because i could not get it started. there is another minor issue with the position of the double tabs being a few degrees off, but this is minor, and the pulley will probably work if a magnet sticks to the ring.
2. second issue is the lack of a hardened outter sleeve where the pulley goes into the engine. the pulley sits inside of a crank shaft oil seal. after time, people have said that the seal (which seems to be made of hard plastic with a metal rib) eats into the soft alluminum. to fix this, UR and Defintive have steel and brass outter sleeves. RVM to my knowledge does not have this. the cut a groove so it looks like they put a sleeve on it, but they did not put a hardened sleeve (on mine at least). some have said if you change your crank shaft oil seal when you change your pulley (which you should do anyway!!!), it may not happen as soon, but i think eventually, w/o some harder metal, the alluminum will wear out.

So if RVM has fixed these problems of a ring that sticks to a magnet and hardened sleeve, I would say buy a brand new stock power steering belt, and get the smaller belt for the alternator. you should be able to find the size somewhere on this forum. if your pulley does not have these problems fixed, I'd say you bought a $84 paperweight.

my vote goes to DEFINITIVE. it's 2/3 the cost of unorthodox racing, and build quality is just as good if not better.

Is the timing ring the pretty thin part that is connected to the main part of the pulley, the 4 bolts hold it in place? if it is, then mine is magnetic. and is the sleeve the inside of the pulley that sits on the crankshaft?

Right on the timing ring. The sleeve is (should be) on the ouside of the 'snout'. If the pulley is silver it could be hard to see.
