IMO, painting the dash makes your car looks cheap. in addition, u'll have to spend so much time to take out each interior parts, coat it once, wait, dry, coat it twice, wait, dry, put it back. too much work.

if you buy a dash kit, it provides 3m double side tape and will secure very well. installation takes no longer than 20 minutes. just make sure clean any dust off the surface really well and it'll stay on forever. (mine has lasted more than 1 yrs+ without a problem)

if you do the paint right it could look quite good... it will take a $h!tload of time though, but any mod is worth the time if you like the end result!
as for me, i'd go with a brushed aluminum dash kit

There are instructions for painting your dash in the FAQs.

It looks good when done right.

do you guys think brushed aluminum would look good with grey? because the only pics i've seen are in black interior. and about how long does it take to sand it, paint it (3 coats) and 2 clear coats? and put back...ballpark?

You have to let all the coats dry thoroughly. So figure a whole day to do this.
