I attempted to flush and change my thermostat and for my trouble got an air pocket in my cooling system. This also caused a no heat from my heater. Have you tried to flush and fill? That thermostat on a 99 is a pain in the **** to get off, in fact I think only a shop can get to it.

I don't think the guy should apply at Stanford either he said if the coolant isn't low he doesn't know what else could be causing the problem. Can we at least require an IQ of 85 to join the forum?

heater core is in the heater itself which is located under the right side of the dash. remove the glovebox and you should see it. if you need a pic of how to remove it, pm me cause i have the nissan maxima service manual from nissan.

No it isn't.

It's a 20 minute job to swap the thermostat. Including draining and filling the coolant. Read the FAQ.

Low coolant most likely. Happened to me this year also. Turned out to be a leaky water pump seal letting it all drain out.

Well it was for me, I didnt have a ratchet that would fit in there, it was just a crap experience for me. I got frustrated with the whole thermostat right next to the friggin frame set up. I took it to a mechanic who stated he lifted the engin up a few inches to get at it.

the easiest thing to do is to change your coolant temp sensor.Check your gauge it should be 1/2 up the range within the first 5 mins after you start your car in the morning. Its a $26 part at auto zone or Adv auto parts.Change this part, check the coolant level and if there are no other problems like your core etc you Will get hot air.Trust me i have suffered for months last winter waiting for that thing to blow some hot air!

merry christmas,

Jay

The coolant temp sensor has no effect on the temp of the coolant...

Only the thermostat does.

Anyway, you just need a 10mm socket on a ratchet with a universal joint to get the thermostat out. You don't need to lift the engine or any crazy stuff like that.
