About engine TUNE-UP.

My 95'MAX had some hard start while its cold. Sometimes, after few try, the "check engine" light will on(once i read a 'knock sensor' code from ECU). I usually reset the ECU and nothing wrong after that. It happen randomly like that. And also, I feel the car accelerate little lazy at a red light.
I am considering a engine tune up. I get O2 sensor changed in Sep and Nissan dealer said the KS is ok after a full diagnose.
Last Oct, I changed 6 new spark plug (CHAMPION COPPER from CANADIAN TIRE), FULE FILTER AND AIR FILTER.

before that, i would like know something about tune up.

1\Will a tune up can solve the promlem of start and lazy acceleate?
2\what service contents a "tune up' include usually?
3\Dealer or any other garage like SPEEDY or Midas? any diffrence?

Thax!

After you reset the ECU, i tell people give it 2 weeks to adjust itself (assuming u drive everyday). That may cure the slow acceleration.

You should go into your local nissan dealership and check out their maintenance stuff. When I bought my car @ 98,000 miles, I went to my local dealership and asked them what maintenance is due. They gave me a printup and estimate. I went by the printup and performed the maintenance myself.

My local dealership has a $60k service for about $500. Doing it myself was about $120 in parts over 1 month of time (cuz i was buying the parts through .org and online), working only a few hours on saturdays.

The biggest difference were changing the air filter, fuel filter, and Chevron Techron Fuel System cleaner. After doing each of those, either my mile-per-gallon went up, or my accelleration felt better (and idled smoother/higher).

check ur ecu for any codes. If your KS is acting up, it won't show up as a CEL. It may throw a code in your ECU (making your max slow), but not in your CEL.

Also, throw away the champion coppers. Go with NGK coppers. NGK makes the OEM spark plugs, and our cars are kinda sensitive to *rappy spark plugs. You could go with NGK platinums (but they are pricey). Champions are designed for lawn mowers.

Also, like Thurz said, Techron fuel system cleaner is pretty good. I only pump chevron gas anyway(which has techron in it).

lol. I didn't even notice.

I try to get Chevron premium whenever I can... unless I'm in the middle of nowhere or Chevron's just too expensive, then I use 76. I run the Techron Fuel system cleaner in the tank of gas just before I do my oil change. I did that cuz BG fuel system cleaner suggests changing the oil after using their super duper strength cleaner. I have no idea why, but I just follow those directions.
