When I first had my H&R/Tokicos installed, they made a creaking/groaning noise when I turned the steering wheel. It turned out that the upper strut mount on the right front was scraping against a bolt that was sticking out from the body of the car under the hood. It's two bolts which stick through the metal into the wheel well, near the windshield wiper motor.

It was obvious that was the problem because when I removed the front right strut, there were scrape marks on the upper strut mount. I fixed the problem by installing a few washers to give the bolt more clearance. After that, no problems at all.

Someone not familiar with this problem might think it's an improperly seated spring (or one that is installed upside down). You can check that by seeing whether the spring turns with the strut when you the wheel, and the lettering on the spring ("H&R") should be right side up.
