Spanked by an old school Eclipse (long story)

Right so I'm driving the long drive home to my place, when an early 90's, junky stock Eclipse (the plymouth laser looking ones) pulls up next to me and wants to race. I figure alright its your own funeral, shift down to 4th and zoom away. I look behind me, dont see the eclipse, and look to my side and there he goes at about 110 mph, meanwhile I'm still working on getting past 90.
I was devasted! I wanted to die, beaten by a POS eclipse?! I couldnt even speak to my car - I had my max for 3 months and it was so far undefeated. Anyway so I pull up next to him again, because I just couldnt believe what happened I needed another shot. I look in his car again and realize, that Eclipse aint stock! Completely bone stock aesthetically, but boost and nitrous guages on the pillar and center console, then I heard him take off and "phhwyyshshh" blow off valve. Im sure the look on my face was priceless - relief mixed with awe.
Relieved to know that I wasnt beaten by some junky old stock eclipse, I wasnt mad at my Maxima anymore. That car was in a different league than me - but I did race him one more time just to see and hear that thing go. We'd be cruising at 80mph, he'd hit it, and the whole car would rock back as if he was taking off from a stoplight.
Anyway - watch out for sleeper old plymouth/eagle/eclipses modded to hell! I didnt know there was such a huge turbo/boost sleeper community for these cars.

DSMs can be very fast...on dsmtuners.com the top 25 1/4 times are 8-11s, I was about to get a 91 GSX (turbo, awd) but it was auto and not in the best condition.

Not all dsm's are awd. And they can be very fast, if you don't mind having it break down on you every 2 weeks.

A dsm is something you just dont mess with unless you know the person. Those cars are COMPLETE sleepers. I used to own a '90 GS turbo, and my buddy had a 90 TSi...both were FWD. FWDs are far better on the highway. AWD versions can be made 10-11 secs cars easily...

And yes, they are a POS...

Anyone who knows how to build a DSM would never call them a POS. I had mine for 4 years, pushing almost double the stock HP with ZERO problems. If you had a problem with a DSM, it's your fault.

And btw... a stock eclipse will spank the **** out of a stock maxima ANY DAY.

I was considering on buying a DSM before the max. If I had found a awd turbo with low miles in manual I may ahve bought it instead.

No, a stock turbo eclipse. He said the car he ran was a turbo car. DSM's came in turbo.. they will rape even most modified Maximas stock. I know people who pull 14.6's in first gen DSMs bone stock.

3rd huh? at 80? Yeah maybe I shouldve.. it may have gotten me some extra speed but that DSM still wouldve dusted me proper.
Yeah it feels like losing to a dumpy 80's camaro or something.

Would call that far from rape. As most modded Maxs are in the 14s. Most stock DSM do not pull 14.6 times. Most run in the upper 14s/low15s, so its all a drivers race. You cannot go by what one car did and make that a generalization of what every stock DSM will run...

Yep...correct. Basically any car that Mitsubishi and Chrysler co-developed (Dodge Avenger/Mitsubishi Eclipse, etc.). Most refer to Eclipses/Lasers/Talons tho.
