Hard turning on a cold start

Lately, when I just start my car in the morning, or after it hasnt been turned on for a while, it seems that when I turn teh steering wheel, its hard to turn, almost like it jerks as if somethign is blocking it from turning. It doesnt stay stuck, but like at a few points it is difficult to turn smoothly. As soon as I start driving, it goes away and doesnt come back until the next time I start the car when its been cold. Is this normal, This wouldnt do this before, is this a sign of something wrong? let me know thanks!

I had the same thing happen to me a couple mornings ago...basically it felt like the wheel was jerky like the power steering was working, then not, then working again. Also when i turned the wheel to the stop it made a squeeling noise. Not sure why, but its ok now.

You should drain and refill the PS fluid in the max about once a year. If you haven’t done this in awhile, do it by using the following steps:

You should try draining your power steering fluid by removing the hose at the bottom of the PS fluid reservoir, drain it, putting the hose back on, fill it to the line. Drive around a little bit, then check the level and add fluid as necessary.

I bought my car used last April and I don’t’ think this was ever performed on the max, so I did it a second time after driving for a day. My steering performance improved dramatically. I’m going to do it a third time this summer to try to rid the PS of all the demons. Cheers.

Flying to Ft. Lauderdale this Wednesday night. Vacationing there until my flight the following Monday. So. Florida rocks. You can find me big pimpin drinking bubbly while motoring in the intercostal canal (and at the Elbow Room on A1A).
