Why not get a new one?
If you are going to spend in the 20K range, why not just step up a little to a new max? Or wait for the 2002 Altima in fall? http://www.freshalloy.com/cars/nissan/altima/2002.html
Seems fair ,maybe a lil high
but supertool is right if you are gonna spend into the 20s mite as well buy new ...
when i bought my max in jan i capped my spending off at 18 or so, and i ended getting a 99 grey se (not limited) auto no leather no bose (come to think of it, it was pretty much stock except for the sunroof) for 17 only - gripe about it was that it had 26k miles on it

SOunds nice but a little pricey
99 SE should go for $18K-$19K with those options. I saw a red 99 SE on Ebay for $18,500. I have also seen 97 SE max loaded with around 45K miles for between $12K and $14K. If you really want a bargain, the 95/96 SE sells for $6 to $11K depending on miles and features.
Whatever you do, good luck and enjoy the ride!
