FYI... I don't know how many of you own these year models, but check into this if you get a chance.

1997-1998 Maxima Alternator Replacement

Applies to 1997 Maxima, the following Vehicle Identification Number Ranges:
JN1CA21D*VT218136 - 222389;
JN1CA21D*VT847525 - 877868;
JN1CA21D*VM518869 - 540253.
Applies to 1998 Maxima, the following Vehicle Identification Number Ranges:
JN1CA21A*WT300201 - 405210;
JN1CA21D*WT500001 - 615203;
JN1CA21A*WM800002 - 806538;
JN1CA21D*WM900001 - 923624.
Please be aware that not all VINs within these ranges may be affected by this campaign.

I found this at www.nissanusa.com. Go to the owning section and click the recall pull down. I checked my VIN and it came up as a potential. They took the car and mine needed to be replaced. A faulty alternator could cause fire, so get yours checked guys. No charge at all is the best part for a brand new alternator. No worried about not being the original ownere either, I'm the third owner of my Max.

 

 

This is a recall item that you need to address because of the possibility of fire from the shorted alternator.
