Idea for Altezzas for 95-96ers...

Ok someone mentioned this before, and im thinking about trying it. Painting the outside casing of the altezza red with that testors candy apple red paint( if my walmart ever gets it). I was wondering if it looks horrible, is there a way to remove this once it drys with out clouding the plastic. Anyone with good photo shop skills to do this?

Im hoping it would turn out like the new VW, id leave the reverse light space there, id just mask it off..... I know some will hate it no matter what, but hey no one has it.....

vw tails....

My friend had that same idea for his 95-96 after seeing my 99 all-reds. As for something that will get it off, dont worry, go to your local home depot/lowes and pick up a small tin can (yellow) of Goof-Off. Its in the paint thinner section. Its all purpose remover, so its nowhere near as harsh as straight up paint thinner. Ive rubbed and rubbed my tails since i went through a few different stages of designs. No fogging whatsoever for me...

Good luck, and its good to see people being more unique with their tails...

I have seen a Del Sol with 1/2 red altezzas and it looks good, so give it a shot. whats the worst that can happen; You need to buy some Oops! or Goof-Off?

Heres a couple quick p-chops before work...I took the pic from an ebay auction. I would like something like the second pic but the photochop kinda sucks because i did it so quickly. Also, i dont know if the outer chrome edge is separate or under the plastice so I just excluded it Later

If anyone is actually to do this, how would you guys get the reverse light to light up white if the entire lense are to be painted red? Maybe mounting an external reverse light under the bumper would do it, just don't know how legal it will be.

hey, good job with those photochops
i like how you left the reverse light clear, it actually looks better that way. i'd really like to see ones like that installed on a car...

so i guess i wasn't the first to think of this as evidenced by that picture of the black max with the wing... oh well... it was an original idea to me tho

I wasn't thinking about painting the entire lens with transparent paint...what my idea was was to paint the chrome inside with transparent red paint...that way, you still get the flashiness of the chrome where as if you used any other paint, it would just cover it. You can leave the lense clear...I would try it but I dont have altezza's or money

Thanks alot Poe Poe those look real good, i like that outline in black. I was thinking of a couple different things... Painting the chrome part black, with the color of my car, or painting that part red, or the clear casing red with the reverse light left clear....Also i was thinking about painting the altezzas black like the car, and not putting on the clear lense for a 3d look, but thats kinda ricy.... What do you guys think?

Ill definatly be the guinea pig on this one, and if i hate it, ill just tint my stock 96 ones black on top

OK I got the paint, is it the same to get the altezzas apart as it is to get the stock ones apart? Heat them at 200? Then how do i seperate them, and do i need something to reseal them???

thanks

nice, but that comment didnt help anything, we have established 100000 times a lot of people hate altezzas, and anyone that trys something other than red/clears is a horrible person... CLAP CLAP you reasserted a known flaming issue.

no no no, the all red altezzas are horrible, that was the point of my post, but you read it wrong obviously

your photoshops need work, you got the link for the original pics of the side by side tails?

also, be less edgy about this new idea, with the bumping, and yelling at people

when i talked to oblong, he said he was going to use candle apple red paint. this is about as close as i could get, while leaving the altezza "texture" inside. i did one lense, half red, other half left the same, easier to compare, and decide if you like it or not

i think outside chrome painted would be better, also PoePoe, that photochop hurts my eyes. hotmax97, you cheated, to try and make red/clears from altezzas. not only would that be very very difficult, it wouldnt work. that small lense in the lower right hand corner is the reverse light.

The small lens in the right corner is not a reverse light but a side marker. You can either paint over it, or pull it out completly. The reverse light is on the inner trunk light, its the clear half circle. But it still wouldnt work. They would be red/silver not red/clears. Also, the circles are red lens.

Eventhough I photochopped the idea, I never liked it from the start. I'm just speaking out about it now since I didn't wanna hurt any altezza owner's feelings. I'm sticking with my stock lenses, ambers don't bother me. Stay with ambers, ambers can be your friends too. Ambers don't bother cops either so they'll stay off your tip. I have more important mods to worry about, nothing aesthetic. It's all performance babeee!

Anybody ever try taking the outer clear lens, painting half of it red and replacing the stock lens with it? Might give like a diamond clear appearance for the 96 lights
