Interesting, do you have any pics of the two tone version you are speaking of? I am curious.

I have still not painted the calipers. It has been raining here, until today, for about a week and a half straight. Finally, I might be able to do it one afternoon. I might have to wait until it is a little warmer though. It is pretty cold to be painting right now.

I have seen the two toned version on another car and it looked really good. All you would have to do is paint the calipers black and then paint the back of the pads red. If you don't like it you will just have to paint the back of the pads black. No harm done.

I was also told you don't need it, but I wanted it to shine a little bit. I don't know if I will end up using the clear coat or not.

Dude you can't base your choice off the opinions of the org...decide for yourself. I will be doing mine red when I paint my wheels black or gunmetal..

Ludacris, I am not basing my decision solely on the opinions I get here on the .org...just merely using them to re-affirm what I am thinking. I do like to know why people think the different colors, so that it gives me a good approach when I decide which color to use.

Ludicris, you think black would show up enough to notice and be worth while? I think you ought to go with gunmetal gray on your wheels. That would look sweet. I would probably do the same, but don't have the money.

Thanks for the comments...Anyone else?

Black would look clean...but then no one would notice the painted calipers but you and a very select few. Silver wouldn't make that big a difference bc the calipers are basically silver (mine are anyway). I'm not sure red would look good with your car bc it might be too much red. I'd be between red and black...black may look better but no one would notice...red might not look as good but ppl would notice.

I'm thinking gunmetal or black for my wheels...black would give for a slick look tho imo

it is just going to be tough to find some cheap/high temp gunmetal paint that I can do myself. This is supposed to be a cheap mod, not something that I have to go out and get some special paint mixed. I need to check into that though.

While we are talking about painting...should I paint the bulbus part of the muffler black?

Dude! just do the Red!! and please do the 4 of them, if you do only two it looks like you forgot to do the other two. You can paint the inside part of the rotors black...just to cover the rusty appareance, that what I did and it look sweet, I also painted calipers red..of course I have a black car so that was my best/only choice...I don't have pictures yet...coming soon...

White has all of the sudden shot out of the gate. I have thought about white, but I don't know....it would be awfully hard to keep clean.

What is the best way to clean these before I paint them? Should I just use a degreaser(that will clean anything), and then wash it off and let dry?

Also, should I take out the pads when I do this, or just leave them in so that the back of the pads get painted?

What I did is clean the calipers by using Brake Cleaner and going over it with a stiff bristled brush. Then spray with brake cleaner again to rinse off the loose particles. Brake cleaner dries pretty quickly. Now I took a Walmart bag and stuffed it in between the caliper and rotor as well as one in the space between the rear of the claiper and front. Then I just spray painted a coat of primer then 3 - 4 coats of hi temp paint. I left the pads in and everything has been fine for almost a year now.

sand paper......i used sand paper to sand off all the rust and ish. cleaned it real well. i dunno, but the brake cleaner didnt work well at all. try some light grid sand paper to take off all the rust. and leave the pads in there.....looks a lot better (IMO) and its less work.

Yeah, they are looking good. I painted them white and yes white is hard to keep clean. I just spray them with wheel cleaner when I clean my wheels. Having lower dusting pads like Raybestos QS help a lot too. I don't have any pics of the calipers. I need to get my cardomain site up and running. My calipers didn't have a lot of rust or anything so I didn't have to sand them. I definitely suggest sanding if they are rusty.

Have you been happy with the Raybestos QS so far, MaximaMoJo? I just got some, but I am waiting on my EBC Greenstuff to wear out a little more before I put them on.

Thankfully, I don't think my calipers are that rusted. I have a 1999, so they are not too old.

PK........did you just put some newspaper inbetween the two pads or a paper towel or something? Also, how did you position them so that you can get some good coats of paint on them? Did you paint all of them, or just the front?

Like the Raybestos QS a lot good pads. By the way I did all four calipers. I just put some plastic Walmart bags in between the calipers and the rotor. Worked great!

I can't, MaximaMoJo! I broke my arm and I am out of the "maxima fun" for about another 5 weeks. That is why I am leaving it open to see other votes and opinions...I cannot do it right now anyway. I was going to do it last weekend, but I broke my arm the Monday night before.
