1157 or 1156 ?

Which bulb is in a 97-99 clearance lamp? I know in a 95, it is a 1157 but didn't they do away with the dual beam after 96?

Correct. The '95-'96 models had a dual filament--1157--because when the headlights were on, the clearance light would get brighter when the turn signal was applied. Nissan did away with this in the '97-'99 models. So, in the '97-'99 models, the 1156 bulb is used in the clearance lamp, but you can use the 1157 bulb to make it brighter by shaving off the nub to illuminate the brighter filament.
