battery not holding charge

Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey guys, im new, and my english is poor (SXN helped me write this) so bear with me!
The other day, i left my head lights on for a few hours, then later driving around, my car just died. I took it to an auto parts store, and they checked and charged the battery for me. they said the battery was not recieving a charge from the alternator. i then replaced the alternator, and the battery is still not holding a charge. It wont start now. The alternator is hooked up properly, and all the belts are good.
I have a 1995 se 5 speed, and ANY help would be appreciated. Please be patient with my english, it needs a lot of work!
thanks to SXN

he's pretty good with cars (did the altenator himself) but his english isnt good. he was afraid of posting because of it. Just go easy on him, while talking to him, he has never been hard to understand, just some bad grammar here and there. help if you can

I would just replace the battery (you might need a new one anyway) the car should start and then measure battery voltage at the terminals, if the alternator is doing it's thing properly you should see 13.3 volts or a little higher at normal idle, if not you have other problems.

Yes, Let Autozone check it with thier little portable machine, it will tell you how many amps and volts are comming.
Also when you installed the alternator, did you make sure that the small 2 pin harness was in all hte way? Mine was not and I was about to replace hte alternatior again because of that. They person who installed it did not do a good job, so make sure ALL THE CONNECTIONS ARE GOOD. Also, are your brake and battery lights on in the dash? IF so, check the fuse, it is under the hood near the battery, it is labeled ALT--I think.
