I see a collection of Maxima enthusiasts on this site so i figured who better to ask than you guys.
I just came under ownership of a dark green 99 Maxima SE with 129,800 miles. The car is bone stock. I am a first time Nissan buyer too so i was hoping to get some advice and suggestions of what you guys would do (mechanically) if you bought this car. I am not looking to spend alot or make it loud. I owned a Ford SHO before i made the decision of buying this car and i loved the engine on the SHO and am starting to love the Maxima engine too. Anyways, i am open to suggestions.
Thanks.

Rule #1 STAY AWAY FROM THE STEALERSHIP
Read the FAQs at the top so you'll be familiar with some Maxima stuff. Do a full tuneup using NGK plugs. Change your coolant. Keep your tire pressure the same all around (I keep mine at 35). Just keep maintaining the car and you'll be fine. There is a "How To" thread stickied at the top that has the instructions and stuff http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=254238
Remove the Nissan hamburger logo in the rear and do the red/clear mod for your tails (and do the Dallas taillight mod since it'll look great with your dark green car). Get a FSTB (front strut tower bar) and diamond cut clear bumper lights from eBay.
When your suspension blows, you can get new performance struts and lowering springs (to get rid of that 4x4 look). You can probably get a RSB (rear sway bar) for better handling right now.
Also check your MPG (miles per gallon) b/c if it's low then your O2 sensors are probably dying (you do have almost 130k miles) http://www.oxygensensors.com is the cheapest place to buy.
Check out the Regional forum once in a while since we'll be having some local meets http://forums.maxima.org/forumdisplay.php?f=24

Lets not forget the Knock Sensor, Read the sticky on how to check ECU codes and do it. You might get 0304, if you do, then you have to replace hte KnockSensor. It goes for about 90 on ebay and the instructions are in the HOW TO.
I'd do a full tune up and check the ECU for codes.
Then I'd wait for things to break, and replaced them with better stuff (usually cheaper, anyhow).
Example: My stock y-pipe had a torn flex section...replaced it with a Stillen (I'd tell myself to get a Budget if I were Doc Brown). My clutch started slipping...got an ACT.
And I see my suspension giving out in the near future...

i think jatan pretty much said everything. for mods, I'd go here also, http://maxmods.dyndns.org It pretty much has everything for the maxima. Whatever you want, from performance to suspension. Look it up and see what best suits you. and welcome to the org~!

MaunualMaxima . . . . to answer your question, both would be nice.
