Lowering Springs on OEM New maxima struts
Lowering Springs on OEM New maxima struts
A while back I bought a set of stock SE struts from a friend of mine that had only used them for less then 20k. He had them laying in his garage and wanted to get them out. So I bought them from him. These springs came off of a 99 SE Maxima and the struts only had 20k on them. My question is if I put lowering springs on these barely used struts will I have problems.....? (These are OEM Factory Struts)
well from what my friend tould me he takes a nice clean straight hwy back and forth to work when he had these. The only reason he replaced them was because he got AGX Adjustable struts. I had a local mechanic look at them and he said the struts look in pretty good condition. So what do u think.......I bought a pair of AGX adjustable but i was just wondering for awhile if I could try to see how these are.
according to tech departments of various spring companies that produce springs for Maximas, they all did r&d on stock struts. The reason was cuz it's the only baseline they had, easily accessable, and everybody has them on their stock car. No spring company would recommend a specific strut to me. GC said they produce diff springrates was cuz people complained the stock struts weren't keeping up with their agressive track springrates. They noted that off-the-shelf springs weren't ready for full-time track duty, so they didn't bother testing w/aftermarket struts.
I've noticed that if you leave a "dead" strut laying out for a day, it will suck the piston in. I'm not sure if this applies to all dead struts, but I've witnessed it in several different applications.

I did the same thing last week I bought some stock SE struts from an org member for $18.00 he took them off his Maxima at 18,000 miles I put them on my Max Speed springs and I blew the rears this weekend so thery lasted on 1 week DO NOT DO THIS...now I'm getting some KYB AGX's lesson learned.....
Yeah, Same thing with me. Had the Maxspeeds installed on my stock struts. 1 Week later, the Rears also blew and It left me having to buy all 4 AGX's. But You wont Regret getting agx's. They are Great struts and I havent had any problems scince. I try and tell ANYONE that gets aftermarket lowering springs, that you should always change your struts. I didnt listen when I did it and found out the hard way. trust me, its a lot easier to install it all at once, then to put it with your stock struts and blow them and have to change it all again. It can be a PITA.
My 2 cents
