'97 Max is burning oil??

Whats up guys. Maybe you guys can help me out. My '97 Max with about 106k miles has been burning oil at a rate of 1 quart per 1,500 miles or so. I am on the verge of deciding whether it would be worth it to fix the car or possibly get another car. If I keep my Max, I would end up getting a motorcycle, but if I get another car, I wouldnt get a bike.
But if someone could please tell me the possible cause of the burning of oil and if i should just keep feeding it oil for awhile or get it fixed (and how much would it cost to fix)?? There is no sign of blue smoke out the tailpipe either. Thanks guys.

A few guys I know here in the Greater Toronto Area in Canada all were or are currently suffering from this...airgar, speedemn, blaxxxima, crazyravr, my self. Airgar and my self had our motors replaced under warrenty. Neither dealership that we went to could figure this problem out.

There were no real signs either pointing out the problem. No apparent leaks, no blowby smoke.

My theory is that the rings were never sealed right...probably caused by high manifold pressure and being too low in a tall gear (basically bogging the car a lot). My theory is directly linked to manual tranny cars, as the guys I know this this problem all had manual transmissions. What kind of transmission do you have?

Sounds like a bad gasket on the oil pan, look at the oil pan itself, and see if there is a definate line where oil is coming out. Especially look at joints in the pan, where two pieces come together. Normally, it would not be cost efficient to fix something like that. Just keep on filling the oil.

That is exactly what my car has been doing for over a year. To make a long story short, there is nothing for you to worry about. Do a compression test and as long as that checks out you are fine. Your seals are probably worn but if the compression checks out there is no real impact to your motor right now. Just feed it oil.

My car guzzles oil at about the same rate, but my compression across all cylinders checked out at 170-175 and my dyno and track numbers have been on par with a healthy motor.

Over time you might start losing compression and it could get worse but that might be a few years away. So no sense in spending money to fix it or to buy another car right now.

I already posted a reply over in the exact post you made in the general forums...but here goes:
