Thinking of getting 300zx calipers. What years are suitable?

I did an ebay search for 300zx calipers and got 7 matches.

If I were to do this, could I still use "maxima" rotors?

http://search.ebay.com/search/search...300zx+calipers

There's the link

Any information would be helpful

90-96 i beleve no u have to uses bigger rotors from a Z because of the size....heres a hint R32 skyline brakes also work too..u will need custom brackets to mount the calipers...when u go lemme know cause i want to run Z or Skyline Brakes as well

These Iron ones I know will fit. I have the same ones on my car. I think all the Aluminum ones you see on that list are the smaller calipers which will not work. I could be wrong. I'm not an expert with the Aluminum Calipers, But I do know that like 93 and up Twin Turbos used the larger Aluminum calipers which will work. All those listed are pre 1993, so I'm not sure they'll work.

Also check the General Maxima forums for Matt Blehm's Big Brake Kit which uses 2004 Max rotors and 300 ZX Calipers.

The "26mm Aluminum" calipers were used ONLY on 1990 non-turbos. They used a 280mm x 26mm rotor.

The "30mm Aluminum" calipers were used on 1990 Twin-turbos and ALL 1991-1992.5 300ZX's (both turbo and non-turbo alike). They used a 280mm x 30mm rotor.

The "30mm Iron" calipers were used on ALL 1992.5-1996 300ZX's (both turbo and non-turbo alike). They also used the 280mm x 30mm rotor.

Any of these would "work" with the maxima rotor but once the pads start to wear you may have a problem, because the pistons might not be able to extend far enough to clamp the pads down on the rotor when the pads are worn down, and then you would not be able to stop. I wouldn't recommend using any of them with a maxima rotor, but if you are dead set on doing that, get the 26mm aluminum caliper for the least likelyhood of problems with rotor thickness.

if you use the bigger calipers and machine 3 to 4 mm off the diameter then you can use the 300z rotors, and they will bolt right up. thats what i did on mine. you have to do a little brake line mod, but its not too bad.

the issue im talking about is the rotor thickness, not the diameter. i think he wants to use stock maxima rotors with them for some reason, in which case the rotor thickness becomes an issue because maxima rotors are so much thinner than 300zx rotors. in addition he would also have to machine a few mm off the diameter of the maxima rotor, so basically using the maxima rotor is just as much work, and has the potential to be fraught with problems due to using a rotor much thinner than what the caliper was designed to use. conrad you need to scratch the idea of the stock maxima rotor.

if i had it to do over again, now with matts BBK out, I would buy his BBK in a heartbeat, rather than doing all the R&D and retrofitting and custom work needed to get the 13" cobra rotor to work.
