Auto Tranny Question

Auto Tranny Question
i just took my car out on a test, and i was at 115-120 mph, and at a little past 6000rpm, and it wouldnt shift into fourth...is getting a tranny rebuilt expensive? or would i be better off getting an I30 LSD tranny, and having that put in? I found an I30 tranny for 300 bucks on ebay, but im not sure what would be the best to do? Any thoughts?

This is really a rediculous way to test if your transmission is shifting into 4th. You can drive 60 and test it at that speed.
At 120, the tranny is going to give you the gear that is going to give you the most power to the ground to keep that car accelerating at that speed, which is 3rd gear.

uhhh...ok...the car is supposed to shift at 6000 rpm or so, and it wasnt shifting at 6200-6300. At 60 mph, it doesnt drop into fourth either. But thanks for your opinion anyways.
and by the way, this purpose of this thread was to ask whether or not an i30 lsd tranny was worth buying, or if rebuilding my tranny was the way to go, and how much it would cost.

This thread doesn't make much sense. Your first problem is that you do high speed runs to test something which is putting more stress on the object in question. Then you assume that the tranny is busted because it wont shift into OD. The I30 tranny is definitely worth buying IMO. When my Auto blows I will be doing the Tranny, Clutch, Flywheel buildup.

Yeah seriously, I couldn't have said it better...
I have an auto as well, and I don't think it'll shift until closer to 125, so you probably just didn't take her far enough... But if you really want to get a new tranny for no reason, then by all means, get one from an I30.....
A better way to test your transmission would be to drive up to 60~ mph with overdrive OFF.. Then turn OD on and see if the car shifts.. simple as that.

2 da max, did you have your i 30 tranny put in yet? I know I'm capable of replacing the my tranny with an I 30, but someone mentioned i'd need axles, and im just wondering what else i'd need before this went down.

i know i need new cv boots, mine are partially ripped off. Someone said it'd be better to get a new axle anyways. I dunno, we'll see. Maybe ill just save my money, sell my auto, and get a 5 spd. that would be nice
