Help, I need new struts

My max has 84,000 miles and i think its time for me to replace the struts. But i am not 100%sure about it. I also hear my front ball joint shake. Is there a way to check them by myself or should i take it to the nissan dealer??

I rather buy my own parts on-line and then bring it to the shop. I am hoping that the nissan dealer will let me bring in my own part.

DOes anyone know a good mechanic that can fix my problems cheap?
i'm in the Reading, PA area.

The way you test your shocks is you push odwn on one side of the car and count how many times it bounces up and down. But I forgot how many times it is suppose to rebound.

Also, get underneath the car, look at the struts and see if theres any oily residue leaking down the strut. Sometimes theres water there, so test it with your hand to see if it feels like oil or water. If it feels like oil, the strut is leaking. Pushing down on the car is another way to check. Checking underneath is just to be 100% whats exactly going on with the struts.

I've got a 99 with 87k on it and I think its time to replace the shocks. The push test works as far as telling when they go out or fail completely. But my car needs that new car plush feeling that you get with new shocks. Shocks go out real slow and it's hard to tell when that starts. Think I'll replace the springs also.
Replacing the shocks will surely give you that new max ride again!!
