Well I finally installed the exhaust today which included a carsound high-flow catalytic converter (w/stock y-pipe). It was a nightmare separating the y-pipe from the stock catalytic. Everything was rusted together, including the hanger for the catalytic. I ordered the new hanger from Courtesy Nissan (highly recommended).

My initial impressions before installing the Greddy system was that it seemed expensive for what you get. I think it is mandrel bent aluminized steel. There is a light coating on it, which I believe will burn off after a while, and then might start to get rusty. For the money this should be all stainless (only the muffler is stainless).

After test driving the install I basically have the same issue that other have reported, the dreaded drone sound, and let me tell you this droning makes an otherwise decent exhaust into something that you have to tolerate. First, person thought my car sounded old, but he knows nothing about cars so it was taken lightly. To explain the drone, it is a low bassy hum which your ears can feel. It seems to happen when driving on the highway at about 70mph with overdrive on, while applying light gas. For some reason it goes away at this speed with overdrive off.

I have no idea what is causing this drone sound. Maybe if I got rid of the stock y-pipe it would go away. I would be interested if anyone has figured this out.

The other issue is the position of the oxygen sensor. It does not seem there is enough clearance beween the end of the sensor and the metal shield. I am wondering if the oxygen sensor is going to bang into it and damage the oxygen senosor wires. I guess I will find out.

Because of this I can not recommend this exhaust setup.

Don't quote me on this, because I am not really sure, but from what I have read, if you add a y-pipe it will only make it worse.

yeah you put y-pipe on the stock exhaust your car will rumble while it's getting warmed up from the mufler. When you drive around 1,700 and around 2,200 you will get drone in any gear. Sounds cool, but it's whatever you prefer. It's not really that loud, you got to have the radio down to hear it.
