For Those with Bad 02 and KS

I was getting codes for front right 02 sensor and KS. I had the 02 sensor changed out yesterday. (after mzmtg and I broke his tools trying to get it out because it was cross-threaded into the hole) anyways, my point is that a bad 02 sensor causes the ks error to come on. the dealer put in the sensor which I bought from oxygensensor.com for a lot less than what they want at the dealer. they reset the ecu for me, so when I get home I go and check the ecu because I didn't tell them about ks (granted they probably figured it was coming up anyways) and I wanted to see what would happen. I check the ecu and the ks code comes up. so I'm thinking maybe it is bad. I drove it around town some last night, and this morning, come home and check the ecu again. 0505 code, all is clear. SWEET. anyways, just thought I'd give you guys with both codes some hope and maybe save you some money.

Thanks for the info.

What about if mine is spitting out the 0505 code (I checked a few days ago) but it has a hesitation like it is almost missing at WOT at about 3400rpms? Any explanation for that?

Disconnect you knock sensor, drive it around, if you feel like a slug all then your knock sensor is fine.. =o

O2 always trigger knock sensor. when the O2 is fixed knock sensor should go away, if not, they u definetly have both malfunction O2 and knock sensor.

glad to hear everything is working out fine

0505 means you should be all good to go. I don't know a lot about cars so maybe someone else can explain the hesitation problem. shouldn't be your ks tho

edit: maybe you have a loose throttle body cable. I saw some guys tightening their's a few weeks ago at the track.

Anybody know a thread or link for instruction on how to tighten a throttle body cable or something related that might help the hesitation at WOT?

If you look at your intake and follow it down to the throttle body, there are two cables. There are some nuts at the end of the cable. See if these are lose. If so tighten, if not leave them alone because you don't want to over tighten anything so that you break something.

cool, thank. I will try that out.

I just keep asking about the coils and knock sensor, because I don't want to have to buy them if they are not bad. Obviously, as both of those things are pretty expensive.

That does stink, but look at it this way, you shouldn't have to buy another 02 or knock sensor for a really long time (hopefully never). I'm at 90,000 miles, I'm sure the others will go out soon enough.

I just went to a dealership yesterday to get mine checked out. They said Nissan is recalling the o2 sensors for the 96's at least, I didnt check if it was for all 4th Gens, so I am getting the o2 sensors replaced free of charge.

Thats good to hear about them doing it for free. My car pulled the codes the other day. I checked my haynes manual and it said both up and downstream o2 sensors where bad plus the knock sensor. Is there an official recall or something official saying its free of charge?

Just did a search on the Nissan web site and it does not show anything so it looks like it just pertains to a specific VIN range. I will check it out when I pick my Max back up.

Bad news...

So I went to the track last night. Still ran crappy times 15.9-16.2

This morning I go check my ecu and there is a bad KS code. What I don't understand is why after changing the 02 sensor code, the KS code went away. I got the 0505 code and everything like two days later. Here not even a week later the KS code is back.

I hate sensors!!! HaHa, seriously tho, any thoughts?

I pulled 0304 from the Ecu and sometimes the CEL comes on then goes off, would that be my knock sensor or is it the o2 sensor tripping the KS?

are coil packs the same thing as ignition coils?

what are some other symptoms of coil packs and/or ignition coils gone wrong?

The KS is a large part of your problem. That and that huge stereo and all the tools in your trunk...
