idle WAYYY to high!

my idle is way to high its at like 1100RPM. i was in a parking lot and put it and drive and never once stepped on the gas and got all the way up to 20MPH!!
so i need to know how to lower the idle and theres some slack in my throttle cables so i need to know how to tighten those too.
THANKS

When the engine is cold the idle will be much higher ~1200 or so

It could be a bad IACV (idle air control valve) .

i had my rpms as high as 3000 one time(idiot friend over tightened throttle cables) it was interesting. i put it in reverse and i was flying down the drive way then shifted into neutral and shut it off. after fixing the cables everything was ok. Ive seen in other cars where the throttle plate had dirt and grime in it and it didnt allow the plate to fully close therefore the rpms were kinda high, try cleaning your throttle body also, it should help.
