Noise when I travel over bumps; Help

Over the last few weeks I have noticed an intermittent noise coming from the underside of the car when traveling over bumps. Today, on the interstate with 5 people in the car, the noise was happening all the time (over bumps).

Description: Its a low tone, thumping sound. Sounds like its coming from the rear of the car, but not sure. Sounds like something is loose, and when I go over a bump, it thumps against another piece of metal. I have never replaced the rear shocks, I will be doing that soon. I plan on taking it to a mechanic, but was wondering if anyone had a similar problem/and new what it was.

Thanks

the only thing i can think of is something that happpened to me. when i put my rear speakers in, they bounced around in the back of the deck which made a noise like you are describing. all i did was get some foam stuff from home depot and put it under the deck, never happened again.

Please remove the dead body from the trunk of your car. That should take care of the noise.

The dead person you have hiding in the trunk. You know that girl that's hog tied in the back.

i have the same noise and haven't been able to figure it out. i replaced my rear shocks, checked my suspension, checked my spare tire, none of the above. really drives me nuts but i do my best to ignore it. i usually hear it more when there's weight in the rear, but still can't put my finger on what's causing it. sounds like a thud...

check your exaust. Sometimes it could be one the rear rubber mount bracket that holds up the B pipe might have broken off or the rubber came off. When you hit the bumps, it case the muffler to swing from side to side.

Thanks guys, I will check my speakers, exhaust, and the items in my trunk. I have heard noises of items moving in my trunk, however, the noise sounds different. I will be sure to check everything. Thanks

BTW: I don't carry around bodies in the trunk. You get caught more easily!

Yea, i have the exact same problem. It souinds like it is coming from the shocks and this started happening after i repalced my suspension, with aftermarket springs and shocks. I have uninstalled, and reinstalled the back suspension and the problem still continues. I would love to know how to stop it. It is very annoying.

on the exhaust hangers (rubber pieces that hold the mid-pipe up), but that would sound more like springs on a mattress.
Worth checking out though.

In some cases whenever you install new struts and springs, you have to give it some time to settle in...everything is new and stiff. My car made the same noises (amoungs others that I'm still working on), and after 1000 miles the noise stopped. The only one I'm still trying to figure out, is the sound I'm getting from my front right struts when I turn the wheel...it's sounds like a mild clunk as if the spring is turning. It only happens after I wash the car @ the car wash.

that used to happen to me...whever i took a right turn up any type of incline, there would be a kinda loud clunk...but it just went away after a while...

Just a thought have you checked your e-brake cable. My old car not my Max made a similiar noise and it turned out the e-brake cable was the issue....worth a check.
