Well, you can flush the cooling system and change the oil.

My father told me they used to run the engine for a few minutes with 3qts of engine oil and 1qt kerosine to clean everything out. They'd then drain it and fill with new.

Anyone heard of this, and (more to the point) will this damage our cars at all?

As for your wheel, it could be a million things.

You need to be more specfic with how many miles.

-Clean your TB, Do an oil change, Get a tune up (if needed). Flush out your radiator coolant and Refill it with the correct coolant. That will take care of your engine.

-Knocking noise can be anything. Lower ball joint is bad, strut is loose, Play in the wheel (Wheel moves a lot from side to side or up and down, the best way to check this is by jacking up that side only and shake the wheel side to side and also grab the top and the bottem, do the same thing, if theres a lot of play then that can be your problem). If making a turn and you hear noises it can be your CV shaft. Turn your wheel all the way to one side and peek in and see if its ripped open. Idk what else to say thats all i know. Hope it helped

I flushed my engine recently and it runs like a top now, maybe even a little bit quieter. I drained all my oil out of the crankcase and refilled with 2 qts. mobil 1 synthetic, and 2 1/2 qts. mobil 1 ATF dexron III. changed the filter and started her up and let it run for about 5-8 minutes. Sounds crazy to run the engine with 2 qts. oil and almost 3 qts. tranny fluid, but the ATF acts as (IS) a detergent and helps remove all of the garbage and buildup in the crankcase and anywhere below the pistons. Then I emptied that out and used a basic "motor flush" according to the directions then changed that out and filled with mobil 1 synthetic and rechanged the filter.every now n then I'll also use a "restore" oil additive or throw some Marvel mystery oil" in the gas tank for extra mental security hahaha. I've used both products in all 7 of my cars since I was 15 and I recommend them both (especially for fuel injected motors). Anyways, when if/when you change the oil and decide to throw some tranny fluid in there and run it for a lil bit, MAKE SURE you don't leave the vehicle unattended, dont go take a ****, smoke a cig, etc......listen carefully for different sounds as the mixture gets processed through the engine, this can damage your engine if you let it run too long because of the lack of viscosity in the lean mixture. Hope I helped.

Amzoil makes an excellent product for flushing you engine. I was a manager for a quik lube place for almost 4 yrs. when I was a kid & I never heard of mixing motor oil w/ tranny fluid & running this combination together. Who know's could actually work. But as far as using it for a detergent to clean the inside of your engine I would just say use a motor oil that has a detergent in it. I know that alot of vehicles use dextron III tranny fluid for the power steering but I would be cautious about putting it in my engine. See you have to be careful what you mix with certain types of motor oil. Most oils will not seperate with other additives, but some will. Like Pennzoil or Penske, these oils are parafin based. Which means they contain wax. Most people know to stay away from these brands because of that. And some people I have dealt with wanted to change from Pennzoil to Castrol or Vavoline & I told them that they can't change to these brands until they flush there system. Because mixing the 2 brands will cause the Pennzoil to seperate & make the wax particles build up. If anyone who has ever taken apart an old motor & noticed caked on oil that guy was probably using a Pennzoil or Penske oil product. Just be safe & make sure what even you add to flush your engine is compatible with your brand of motor oil. I would recommend the Amzoil motor flush product. And I would also put a bottle of prolong in with the new oil after you have removed the oil containing the engine flushing product. Never ever ever use Slick 50 or any product containing teflon. If you have ever seen what teflon looks like after it seperates from the liquid product it's contained in you will be happen that you avoided using it. It turns into a solid ball inside your engine. Using any product with PTFE (teflon) will cause major damage. The only reason most people will use these products is because the manufacturers will say that the will extend your vehicles warrenty if you use there product. But when the time comes for them to anti up they always find some way to get out of making any repairs to your vehicles engine. Kinda of a catch 22 if you know what I mean?
