ok, So I hear people say that their cars are running at lower rpms, after instaling performance y-,b- pipes.

Now why is that?

It doesn't make sense to me.Please explain.

Thanks
Gui

I really have no idea what you're talking about? Who are these people saying that? I really have never heard such a thing.

No doubt, people who make this claim are talking about cars with an automatic transmission, but they are confused about how the AT works.

The AT transmits power through viscous shearing of the tranny fluid in the torque convertor. The TC doesn't care how much power the engine makes, it only cares what the engine rpm is and what gear the transmission is in. Nothing in the TC is changed when you add a y-pipe, so there is no change in power transmission characteristics, and the amount of slip is going to be the same before and after.

It's funny that the people who make this claim are the ones who bolt on a part that may increase power about 5-10 hp. Yet the guys putting on a turbo or supercharger and adding 100 hp or more don't make this claim.

My car used to run at 3000 rpm at 70mph in 5th gear. With Budget Y pipe it now sits at 2800 rpm at 70mph.
I have a 5 speed.

Tell me how that is physically possible. Unless you changed your tires/rims at the same time?
