EDIT: IT Works with all VQ engines!!! See post #14 below

Hey yall I was reading through one of my favorite magazines- Stillen Sports Cars mag and I realized that you with the 99s and 98s might be in luck. Stillen is making what looks like an additional ECU daughterboard that may work with your ECUs to get the gains that Technosquare and JWT ECUs (doubt any rev limiter raising though) deliver. Im not sure that it works with all year models but I would look into it....

Its called the "VQ Pro" and the catalog describes it as "provides better fuel/air management, increasing overall performance. While there are power gains throughout the entire RPM band, the most dramatic gains are felt above mid throttle and extend to redline. This unit wires directly to your stock ECU, unlicking the hidden performance in your vehicle. Program may include dual mapping depending on vehicle and trim. Also includes bypass connector that returns ECU to stock programming mode."

Good luck, I hope it works out!!

-Spaniard.

BTW I tried calling stillen to ask them but they are closed at the moment.
EDIT: Its got a "NEW" logo splashed by the product - and its not on the website yet... here- NM- heres a scan of it

Thanks for the info.....now everyone that has a 98-99 Maxima....call or email Stillen to get the facts straight and maybe have them install one in a Maxima to prove that it works.

So did it list the 4th Gen as an application?

That would be sweet

well since it is named the VQ-Pro makes one think it has a pretty good chance of working with our engines.

Let's just hope!

Or it's probably for the VQ35, which I wouldn't doubt.

Hmmm. That is a REALLY SMART idea to make a daughterboard. Maybe one of the other companies will copy them. This will make it alot easier since all hte have to do is figure out the wireing and how to remap everything. So if they have a dump of hte ECU eeprom/tsop they can make this daughter board.

Yes!!
Well, out of curiosity I called Stillen and asked about the VQ pro...

GOOD NEWS! No, GREAT news!!!

heres what I got from the rep:

1) about a month away from production release. they are still fine - tuning it and getting good results he said

2) It will work for any VQ motor!!! Any VQ30 or VQ35 even!!!

3) They are seeing between 7-10% HP gains across the band mostly from mid to top

4) Estimate cost of 4-500 bucks.

Now does that rock or what? The boys at Stillen have done it again

Not to sound like an @$$... but I think anyone who is excited about this should never again refer to Stillen as Stealin.

IMO You get what you pay for and Stillen is the company that innovates- they practically created the Maxima aftermarket. GO STILLEN !!

Awqesome I hope it really only is a month! I do have to admit that when I owned a 96 200sx many years ago Stillen was the first to make an intake for it-good quality as well. And they have pioneered Many other Nissan products,

I guess you could try to approximate what the pros are coding for you... If you had the knowledge and inclination to get in the trenches so to speak.

That's good news. Wonder what it all does. Sounds like obviously it modifies the air/fuel ratio, wonder what, if anything, else. Air tweaks could be done with and AFC as well. More aggressive timing would really make this a worthwhile investment.

I wonder... I didnt see more than a 10% increase in power with the JWT ECU and so.. if they are getting similar increases I would tend to think they are managing to change most or all of the same parameters. But that is definately a gut feeling since actual #s arent around yet.

I hope the gain aren't like a JET ecu.

It needs to be like a G-Force/Technosquare ECU programming and a JWT revlimiter.(your choice of limiter)

So wait, I will end up spending, or should I say throwing away $500 for a 7 hp gain???

...you must be sh!ttin me!!!

Unless you did not make a mistake and you really did mean 7%, which would be ******* awesome of course and would lead me to buy the stillen ECU upgrade in notime!!!!!

That's approx. a 14 hp gain, at the least, which would own! Even better if it were 10% - delivering an astonishing 20 hp gain - WOW!

Anyway, do you guys know what would actually cause the hp gain? I mean better air/fuel ratio obviously would, higher rpm band, and what else???
