The ECU is the "brain" of the car. Reprogramming the ECU with the cracked codes of JWT or Technosquare will result in 15-20hp gains throughout the powerband.

An ECU upgrade remaps your stock fuel program, thus allowing the car to run more efficiently and leaner up in the mid to top end rpms. It'll also raise the rev limiter (JWT ECU) and eliminate the speed limiter in some cases. Like THT said, good for around 10 - 20 HP.

There's a deal going on in the group deal section for a Technosquare ECU right now, good stuff.

I was wondering about this too. Can it harm the car at all? Like cause a greater chance of knock? Thanks.

your car still has a knock sensor, so knock should not be an issue, though you MUST run premuim gas, even though you should even without an ECU upgrade. Overall, they really won't hurt your car, they are a tried and true upgrade.

And yes, it will work for automatic or manual, though you must make sure you get an ecu programmed for whichever tranny you have.

I'm waiting for them to raise the rev-limiter on the technosquare ecu (see other thread), then i'll buy one.

Should someone get an ecu upgrade if they plan on Turbo'ing the max soon? Would this be a waste of money?

I have never seen a G-force or JWT ECU on a maxima give anywhere near 20hp. I have seen a peak gain of 11hp in the mid range with the JWT ECU.

I thought that upgraded ecu gives a "strong" 10-12 hp. Anything above that is comericalism by the manufactors of that certain upgrade.

Still the ecu upgrade is something that you want to have in your arsenal of upgrades. It remaps your air to fuel ratio through out the RPM powerband and JWT upgrade removes the speed limiter. This ecu is a good choice if you plan to go with a MEVI (Middle Easter Varible Intake) later.
