i have a '99 gxe stock with about 72K miles and i get a knocking sound when i accelerate somewhat fast, like when i am passing or accelerating to highway speed from a ramp.

does anyone know what it could be? i appreciate any help.

 

Whos there? Knock sensor.....Knock sensor who? Knock sensor who triggers a check engine light if the maxima is really knocking.

Turn up the radio, better yet, get an aftermarket intake! All youll hear is WHAAAAAAAAA WHAA under acceleration then!

 

well i just go the service engine soon light today..so i guess i gotta check the codes from that and figure out what's the deal.

Are you running 89+ octane. Higher octanes may help eliminate the noise. Try resetting the CEL and fill up a tank of ultra 94 at Sunoco, or whatevers available near you thats 92 or 93.

 

I only run premium which around here is usually 91 or 92. hopefully it's not the knock sensor too.

KS won't trip CEL. But I wouldn't be surprised if you had a KS ghost code.
