$167 to install KS?!

That is what the ***-raping dealer just quoted me. Is this something that a novice could do? I read a thread before that it was easy if you had the right tools.

I tired to search.

Thanks.

The sensor itself costs about $135 online. You can install it yourself as it's relatively easy however getting it out will be painful. Check the How-To sticky.

If that includes the part then it's probably not too bad. You can get them on ebay for $90 shipped (seller's name is yoshi-something) or get one from JR nissan for $112 plus shipping with sale30 promo code. Install instructions: http://www.skippynet.com/maxima/knocksensor.htm, and http://www.motorvate.ca/mvp.php/507.

I suggest you replace it yourself and then evaluate if it's "rape" or not.

My dislike for the dealer is from prior over-priced service. I would like to trust them, but they make it hard when every dealer tells me a different thing and quotes me a different price.

Yeah that is exactly who I got my KS from. Yoshi.

And I printed those instructions, thanks. Im debating tackling this myself or having it done. It sounds easy on paper but something tells me its alot harder.

According to those instructons it takes 15-30 minutes and the dealer told me 3 hours. So someone is off.

Dealer: going by the shop book which tells them the manifold needs to be removed.

Above links: Clever maixma diy'ers have found a way to replace w/o removing the manifold.

Also since you didn't buy the part from the dealer, they lost a profit margin so they make it up on the labor. It's the way the deal works.

Hopefully you can diy and save youself a wad of $
