maxima clutch install???

I have looked at the write-up on the clutch installation, and I am just wondering if installing a clutch is something that a person with jackstands and pretty good mechanical knowledge would want to attempt, or would it be better to just pay to get it done? I also need to replace my cv joints, and wonder if it would be less work to do them both at once since half the work would be done with the tranny out? P.S.- about how long of a job should this be?

2 hours...he must work on a pit crew

If you're handy with a wrench, and have the tools, it's not a very difficult job, but it can be frustrating.

I wouldn't recommend rebuilding your joints, I'd replace the axle; it spares you the time and mess for ~$30/axle more. The axles have to be removed to get the tranny down, so replacing them will add no additional labor to the job.

As for how long it takes, that's a subjective question. For the first time, I'd say ~9 hours if you work at a relatively quick pace. Be safe, plan a few days work

You could get it done for ~$300-$500.

My dealership charges $500.

well its not that hard, the right tools are very important wen doing this job ( trust me i learned the hard way) and airtools are ++++++, the axels are a biatch to pull out also.

I say go for it tho.

I think the hardest part is to break the axles loose but if you have air tools it's a snap. I helps to have someone assist you once you are going to drop the tranny and pick it back up.

The axles were very easy. Granted, you have to pry them out, and hammer them back in, but it wasn't difficult at all.

The hardest part during my first time was getting the transmission back in w/o a tranny jack.
