The brake warning light is always on! What is the problem?

Hi,

I just got a 95 Maxima but the brake warning light is always on whehter the parking brake is applied or not.
I sent it to STS for a check and got a BIG bill estimate for the change of all the rotors, pads and two rear calipers.
It is overpriced,I think.

So could you please give me some suggestion on how to solve the problem to make the brake warning light working properly?

Thanks and looking forward to your kind help.

It's probably the switch itself. Remove the front console where is your hand brake, between the two front seats. The switch is there. Look if the little plunger of the switch is working properly, push it down and see if the light goes off. If not, just disconnect the connector, the light must go off. If it goes off, change the switch.

Does STS said that after changing all the rotors and brake pads and the two rear caliper the light will goes off?? If he said that the light will go off after that, then never go back to this place again, they're gonna rip you!!!

best level just below maximum incase your fluid expands with heat

keep checking the fluid level for the next couple of days.
If there is a leak somewhere it will decrease.
If not . . . . enjoy the car

As your pads wear down, more fluid is used in the lines to push the thinner pads against the rotors. Thus, the lower fluid level.

Replenish your fluid for now. And plan on replacing your pads soon.

There are two triggers for the light, the fluid level and the parking brake switch. If both of these are okay, then you are probably looking at a grounding problem (highly unlikely).

I heard that the piston in the caliper will make the fluid in the resevior increase. Is that the problem?

You should have your brakes inspected at least 2 times in a year. But it depends on how many miles you do in a year.

I was thinking that you checked the level of the fluid before you were posting your question but it seems not.

If the level of the fluid was that low and STS said to you that you need some rotors, pads etc... you really need some.
