1998 maxima gle Loaded! ... what do you think?

hey guys,

i dont post here much.. usually just read....
i used to have a 96 maxima se but an old guy hit me head on so that got totaled and now im looking at other maximas.....

I have come accross this 98 max gle.. here are the options:
abs
dual power seats
Bose
sunroof
leather
heated seats
climate control
allow wheels-7spoke
wood dash.. i am not sure if all gle's come with that

before i buy... if i buy the guy will do the following....
4 new yokohama tires
all new belts
replace all fluids... oil, tranny, etc.
pretty much most of what a 60K tune is.

the car is in flawless condition... i mean like no dings, no paint damage. it could be in a showroom.
only wheels need to be cleaned a little bit, but thats it.

seems like the car was only driven in by the driver... all the seats are in excellent condition.

71K miles.

He is asking $9,000

let me know what you guys think...
If you guys want to see some pictures (may take a sec to load).....

Its an auto. Don't do it. If you really want an auto, buy a 96 GXE 5Spd and I'll trade you. Really though, 9K is around the correct price. If he's asking for 9 you could get it for 8.5K. That would be great for a GLE.

Ok, another car buying/selling thread, so I naturally gotta throw in my .02.
I think the price is on the high side. Sure that is what 98 can go for, but it is nothing special.
Yes, it is in great condition and black on black interior is the sweetest available IMO, but you could find one for less than that. If you want check mine out. It is not as nice as this one on the outside, and has 30K more miles, but has more options inside and I only paid $6000.
I would say if you get it for $7500 or less - good deal, otherwise it is up to you, how bad you want it. But I guarantee, if you hang around few more weeks, a better deal will come around. Ask him what is the lowest $ he will let it go for, without doing those tire changes, etc (and do that **** yourself)
Good luck

It also has an aftermarket alarm system, not sure what brand.

Also... I live right outside Boston and you live in Indiana (im not bashing Indiana so please dont take it that way)...

You may want to factor in different zip codes/different states.

I have noticed that in some parts of the country cars are cheaper or more expensive than other parts.

thanks for your input guys.

Places where Maximas are much cheaper are Cali, Texas and Florida. Otherwise it is too close to think it will influence the price by much.
Alarm is good!
Miles is the best thing about the car. It is a nice one inside and out overall, too. I mean, you can't beat black on black inside. Is white your color of choice?
If this thing is what you have been looing for - offer him $8K. Otherwise hold off, cause there will be another one around sooner or later.
P.S. What about the auto-manual thing? Which one do you want?

Sounds like a great car.
However, it is auto.
Like others have said....don't do it!
Just wait on a good deal to come along with a 5spd...you will not regret it.

I knew that you are going to pop in here sooner or later, Bruce. We can't pass up on a "what do you think about this ($) deal."
You and your 5 speed... He might be an auto driver, who drives a lot in city traffic for all we know.
But seriously, $8-9K is not a bad deal (not a great one either) for this max to someone who is not a Max-enthusiast like we (orgers) are. But we are a step above that and know the market quite well to realize that there are more cars out there like this one for less. It is just a matter of looking right.

It is your call. You would definately enjoy this one if the options are right for you, but you can save some $ if you wait.

I was reading around and i checked out edmunds... i have just priced it out with KBB and NADA.... here is what edmunds said...

Prices are as follows:
Trade-in Private Party Retail
National Base Price $7,098 $8,534 $10,153
Optional Equipment $536 $653 $871
Power Heated Mirrors $37 $45 $60
Power Moonroof $163 $199 $265
Front Side Airbag Restraints $45 $55 $73
Compact Disc Changer $109 $132 $177
Antilock Brakes $137 $167 $223
Heated Front Seats $45 $55 $73
Color Adjustment
White $-40 $-48 $-58
Regional Adjustment
for Zip Code 01702 $-86 $-103 $-123
Mileage Adjustment
70,000 miles $194 $194 $194
Condition Adjustment
Outstanding $534 $613 $746
Total $8,236 $9,843 $11,783

So considering i would pay $9K for it, and its getting new tires, and all the other work done to it.
The new tires are Sumitomo SRIXON4 $47/tire
I would say 9,000 is average/better than average price.

and yes i am an auto driver

Well, become a 5spd driver.
Most people here on the .org that get an auto and do some modding, end up either switching to 5spd via conversion (los of $$$$) or selling their auto and buying a 5spd. Just do it right the first time, learn how to drive a 5spd, and get one.

Maciek is right though....Texas, Florida, and Cali are places that always have a lot of cars. They are better price there too. I live in Mississippi, and I went over to Dallas, TX to get mine.

Finally someone who used www.edmunds.com rather than that junk...kelly blue. Kelly is crap, according to most dealers. I mean, they want you to pay for it with Kelly, but they use either NADA or less to buy your trade. Hmmmmmmm.......kind of a win/win for the sealerships. Don't you think?
