fuel filter prices. how about that?

So i went down to my neighborhood Checker for a new fuel filter.
Fram filter for the Max- $11.99
Fram filter for the 300ZX- $10.99
I had the Z filter in since my last big home service because i heard here long ago that it fit and it was bigger (or something).
Now why is the bigger filter less expensive?
just wondering.

Don't know.
Why don't you ask the manufacturer of the product.

Get the bigger one.
I heard that it would fit too.
I just know that it is enough of a pain to change out, that I don't want to have to do it more often than I need to.

Marketing.
I'm sure they sell more filters for Maximas then for the 300ZX, so I'm sure that's why the price is higher. I used to work at Napa Auto Parts.
It's like that with any business. What sells more can get a higher price if the demand is there. Besides, most parts at any auto parts store are increased at least 100-200% from it's original invoice. As an employee, I usually get it for half price. If you think that's bad then go to your local dealer. If it seems expensive at the dealership, it is!! They average an increase in price from 300 to 400%! Why you ask?...because they can. Prior to the glorious "Internet", it was very difficult to get New replacement parts and the dealership is all you had. That's what makes Napa, Autozone, etc such a big business because they can sell stuff at a fraction of the cost. Although, I admit some of thier stuff is of questionable quality.

Just my $.02

My question is why go with Fram? OEM filters are the only way to go for performance and longevity.

yeah, go OEM. The two filters should be completely interchangable, though the 300ZX is slighter larger as reported. Pick them up from www.courtesyparts.com if you wan OEM at 25% less than your dealer cost.

yeah, I have never heard really good things about Fram. I don't get Fram oil filters for that reason, so I would assume it is the same for the fuel filters....just kind of crappy.

Fram oil filters, although they do filter good, are way too restrictive as far as good oil-flow is concerned. I've seen a Fram oil filter used on a Ford truck that caused the oil pressure to be too high and actually pushed oil out the rear main seal of the crank. All we did was switch to an OEM filter and the leak stopped and has not ever come back. I will not use a Fram filter ever again; the lower price does not entice me.
