why e-brake light on?

yeah the e-brake light on the dash goes on for awhile, then shuts off for awhile, then goes back on. and before anyone asks NO the e-brake is not pulled. the brake fluid is also fine. anyone know?

ugh...pop your hood and locate the brake fluid container. if your brake fluid is lower than "min", then u'll need to fill it up. you can go to stealership and buy 1 bottle of DOT brake fluid for $5 or so. go home, fill it up, and the light should go away.

if not, the you're brake lines probably have air in it. u'll need to bleed it and compress out the air. and here's how u bleed ur brakes if necessary >> http://www.greghome.com/Greg's%20Gar...edBleeders.htm

sorry, must hav been half-blind, bleed the system, costs $0 and might solve the problem. Look into Maxima How-to for directions

Make sure the connections for the lines going into the calipers are tight. If they have gotten loose, they could be slowly leaking fluid.

And then they might completely start gushing from the connections if you happen to hit the brakes hard. You'll know if you have that problem when your brake pedal goes all the way to the floor with almost no effort.

Does your battery charge light ever come on? Check fuse #13 in the box by the battery. If this is ok, you may have other electrical (not brake) problems in the charging system. Check the usual stuff there.

When this happened to me, it turned out my entire rear brake assembly needed to be replaced. The shop said it was a rare occurence but something to consider, just in case.

thank you everyone for the help. as far as the battery charge light going on, well its not. i already had that problem when both the emergency brake light and the battery light went on at the same time, and yes, it was the alternator, so i know thats not it.

the rear brake assembly was already completely replaced about 10k miles ago, probably less. new pads, rotors, and calipars were installed on the rear brakes. new pads and rotors in the front.

in the last day or so ive noticed a grind coming from my front brakes again. could it be new pads already? im gonna have a friend check it out real soon, but the brake fluid level is still fine, so i dont know about a slow leak.

thanks everyone for the help, im going to bed now even tho there are severe lightning storms hittin hard rite now!
