Painted My Dash (PICS)

I finally got some pics up of my dash, I painted it Rustoleum Metallic Silver then did 3 coats of clear coat for a protective finish. I really didn't have any extra cash to cough up for a real brushed aluminum dash kit, so I opted for this. Let me know what your thoughts are.

I painted the cup holder, so when it is open it is silver, and if it is closed it is black.

I think it looks great! You definitely took your time. Looks great and the finish compared to the aluminum dash kits looks ten-fold. Nice job!

I first did one coat of grey primer, because I was not sure if the spray paint would stick to the plastic, then I did four coats of Rustoleum Metallic silver, and then 3 coats of Rustoleum Clear Coat and its very durable.

Yes I painted over the lights, at night it is a clearly visible green, but you cant really tell during the day.
I took the climate control out, masked off the push in buttons, and the ac **** with blue painters tape and painted it.

I would highly recommend this to someone who wants that aluminum look but doesn't have the extra cash laying around for the real kit.

When you paint, do smooth sweeping motions, and it comes out like a professional finish.

I guess it is just me, but I have never really liked the way that the aluminum or the woodgrain looks in the Maxima. I mean, the aluminum dash looks good on like the Chrysler Crossfire or something really new like that, but I just don't think it belongs on the 4th gens.

However, for a painting of the dash, you did a very good job. I do think it is pretty unique with the cupholders that you have done.

I would say that if you are considering a new shifter and boot, don't. It looks better with the black on silver contrast than it would if it was all siverish.

You painted over the fan speed settings...does the light still shine through? Also is the finish really smooth adn glossy?

Thanks for all the comments,

Yes the light still shines through the paint, and it is very smooth to the touch.

I like the way it looks. A lil too much silver for me tho. I like to keep the interior clean but the paint came out great.
