air conditioner noise
My 96 maxima has been giving me a lot of trouble. Now it's getting hot and I find out the air conditioner doesn't work so well as before. When I turn on the air condition, I can hear hiss noise coming out from behind the glove box. And when RPM of the engin reaches around 1000, there is a pretty loud noise which I dont know how to describe. And also I can feel something is vibrating under the hood. But when the RPM goes up to around 1500, the noise just dispears. Any idea of what's going wrong?

The hiss sounds like it might be a leak from your evaporator. The evaporator sits right behind the glove box. Usually a grinding noise from the front passenger side of the engine when the a/c is turned on means that a compressor is going bad. In your case it might be because you've leaked enough oil that the compressor is no longer getting sufficient lubrication. This is only one possibility though, and unless you have any a/c tools already (pressure gauges, leak detector), it'll be cheaper for you to take it to a professional.
The first thing I would do is get the leak fixed. If the leak is the reason your compressor is under stress, the sooner the better or your repair costs might triple. Good luck.
