Why does the front drop differ from the rear?
I'm curious as to why some springs such as H&Rs drop the front by one amount and drop the rear by a different amount. Is it because of the weight distribution of the car and the different amounts drop the car so it's level? I'm currently debating between H&R springs and B&G springs. Because the B&G springs drop 1.6" all-around, will the car not be level?

Stock, the front wheel gap is greater than the rear, especially with a MT (lighter). The front wheel well is also a bit bigger so it makes the wheel gap appear bigger. You definitely want a bigger front drop than rear drop.

I support it... take a look at some of the pictures of the different drops at http://maxmods.dyndns.org/index.php?MaximaSprings that's what helped me decide on springs to buy... they'll be here tuesday!

Actually he doesn't have it backwards. There is a larger gap in the front, therefore you need a larger drop in the front to even it out.
However mind you that this setup is not always ideal. Keep in mind that when your car is moving at highway speeds, the downforcing acting upon your rear forces it down a little bit. Therefore when rolling, springs that are perfectly even at a stop, seem to sag in the rear. I am sure because my cut, perfectly even 2.2" Sprint drop demonstrated this on the highway. Therefore having a little more gap in the rear is not a bad thing. God know why Nissan designed it so the front had more, I think that's just in the panels though, and has no affect on the suspension design but I could be wrong.

Your tranny type does matter here. A manual tranny car will drop less in the front than one with an automatic, due to the lighter weight in front. Therefore, some springs do tend to appear to sag in the rear with manual trannys. I've seen pics of the H&Rs with this problem. I have the Tokico package on my 5 spd. I did get slightly more drop in the rear (1.625" front, 1.7" rear), but measured ride height is now dead even and I'm very happy with how the car looks, rides, and handles.
P.S. Most aftermarket springs are set-up for ideal drop on cars with automatics, since they are WAY more common. I just noticed you have an automatic, so you probably can trust most of what you see written about the drops. Most of the saggy-a$$ trouble I've seen, is with the 5-spds.

So Gibby, you're perfectly happy with the Tokico drop on your 5-speed? I was all set to buy the Illumina/Tokico Springs combo but then I read some threads about the Tein H-Tech which has a similar drop but a great front/rear difference (1.6 front 1.2 rear, I think). My only worry is that 1.2 is too little a drop for the rear... Maybe I will go with the Tokicos. Then again, I'd much rather have a higher rear drop...
