ECU Reset ??

If i do the Ghetto intake (sorry BrianV)
does it make a difference if i reset the ECU or not ?? because right now im in the middle of finding a small leak in the gas line somewhere and the check engine light is on anyway...i just dont know the reason for reseting the ECU ?
Another question is how does Brian V's intake system work with just the filter and how does it make such a different noise/power ??
