manual tranny question on 95 max

im looking to buy a 95 max from someone, its got 120k on it and on the original clutch, im wondering is there a specific tranny that has the differential bearing problem (frank from motorvate had to rebuild 3 times) i know nothing about the manual, did they all have the same problem? what other stuff do i look for, i need a car thatll carry me over 2 years or so, currently driving a 95 auto, but giving it to my family to drive. should i buy a 95 5speed? it seems to be in real good conidition

I have a '95 five speed, but it only has 94 k miles. Still have original clutch and have had no clutch or tranny probs. I've also heard about the 95/96 having probs, but many people here have many, many miles on theirs without any problems.
I say buy it and have fun!

i have a 95 5spd and my clutch has started to slip but alot of it is because i let my friend drive it and hes not used to a real man clutch lol

I have a 95, which I bought with 130k. It needed the tranny rebuilt when I bought it (I bought it from a friend and this repair was part of the sale). It needed new bearings, seals, syncronizers. It also needed a new clutch. He drove the car fairly hard, but I am not sure whether that was a factor in the transmission failing. You could hear the bearing grind while driving it.

The bottom line is that you never know what you are buying. It could run perfect and then have problems a week later. You should be able to tell if the clutch is slipping, but that's about it. You take a chance whenever buying a used car. Good luck!

You can check to see if there is transmission fluid leaking where the cv axles meet the tranny. This indicates the bearing problem. However, I'm not really sure if you can have the bearing problem without this symptom or not.

I have a 95 5-speed, but I've babied it and it has less than 53,000 miles on it, primarily highway . Get the vehicle you are lookoing at checked over. I put my foot in mine from time to time but can count the number of times I've got it over 6,000 rpm on one hand and I've owned it since new. If you are happy with the maintenance inspection and don't continually drive it like a rented mule it should give you years of trouble free driverain service.

I've got 103K on mine, and I drive it like I stole it. No problems.......... YET! When I do, its 6 speed time.

120 on the original clutch is a good sign cause the car was babied but you will need to replace the clutch within the first few monhts of owning the car depending on how good you are at driving clutch...clutches are ment to wear out. Go out for a ride with it and listen for any Whining in 2nd 3rd or even 4th....if there is a whine in 5th, the carrier bearings are shot. What happened from the factory was Nissan improperly shimmed the bearings on some, Not all, 95,96 5spd transmissions. the bearings get loose inside and whine and fall apart after a while...If your leak free, at 120 your most likely A.OK.....
